A Parent is Responsible for More Than Their Own Health

Saturday, August 27th, 2011

This premise may seem logical and reasonable.  The day anyone decides to have a child they give up the right to be a1546120 com 284pxobesi A Parent is Responsible for More Than Their Own Health bad example.   As a matter of fact, my opinion is that the day you start down the road to parenthood you relinquish all rights to selfishness and generally bad behavior.  This includes how you take care of yourself.

The axiom of “Do as I say, not as I do”, never works.  If you smoke cigarettes, there is a greater chance that you will raise a smoker.  If you drink to excess, do not be surprised if your child develops problems with alcohol as well.  Finally, if you fail to pay attention to your health, weight and nutrition you will probably have children that follow in your footsteps.  Our responsibilities in this area are not limited to the days following the birth of our children, however.

A recent study determined that exposing human embryos to high levels of saturated fat can actually harm the development of a child in utero.  The study went on to suggest that women should strive to achieve a healthy weight prior to having children.  The study focused on embryos from cattle but the implications from the study appeared to translate to human eggs as well.  Eggs exposed to high levels of fatty acids had fewer cells, altered genes and altered metabolic activity.  The scientists also believed the study provided some insight as to why obese women may have trouble conceiving in the first place.

fatty acids

Obese and overweight women have a tendency to metabolize more of the fat they store.  The fatty acids that are subsequently stored in the ovaries have been shown to be toxic to eggs.  Therefore, just like drinking alcohol or smoking cigarettes during pregnancy can have serious health implications to an unborn child, being severely overweight and failing to eat properly can likewise produce adverse effects.

A child doesn’t get a vote on who their parents will be.  They don’t get to choose the body in which they are conceived.  Therefore, the responsibility falls on the parent to do right by their children and make good choices, not only for their own health, but for the health of their children now and into the future.

What’s in Your Meal Replacement Shake?

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

To derive the greatest benefit from a meal replacement shake, you have to know what you are looking for.  There are several considerations when making such a decision that can help you to avoid a lot of experimentation and repeated trips to the local isalean shakes choc van 240 What’s in Your Meal Replacement Shake?nutrition store.  First and foremost you need to know what makes for a good meal replacement shake.  You want something that provides your body with the nutrients that it needs while allowing you to cut calories to lose weight.  You also need to pay attention to the type and quantity of protein in the formula.

There are five additional factors that you should research before making a final decision:

  1. Does the product provide long-term weight-loss results, regardless of whether your goals are total weight-loss or ideal weight maintenance?
  2. Is there any third party empirical scientific evidence to back up the products claims of effectiveness?
  3. Is the purpose of the shake to replace a full meal; or will it serve only as a snack between meals?
  4. Is the shake free of additives, artificial ingredients, artificial flavors or sucralose?  In addition, is the product tested for contamination of pollutants and heavy metals?
  5. Is the product available at a reasonable price?

My wife and I believe that the Isagenix Isalean Shake meets all of these criteria.  The IsaLean shake has delivered long-term weight-loss results to include more than 5.4 million pounds released and 6.5 million inches lost by people using the product.  A clinical university study demonstrated that the IsaLean shake surpassed other protein shakes for weight loss results.  The shake is a full meal replacement with 23 grams of Whey Protein which serves to prevent muscle loss while you lose weight.  The IsaLean shake is low in saturated fat while being high in healthy poly- and mono-unsaturated fats.  The shake is all natural with no additives.  Finally, the Isagenix IsaLean shake offers great nutrition at a great price.

The Price We are Willing to Pay to be Thin and “Healthy”

Monday, March 28th, 2011

Most Americans watch television on a fairly regular basis.  Among the commercials for Bud Light Beer, Geico Insurance, and Taco Bell are advertisements for prescription medications, medical products and medical

procedures.  These commercials usually start out innocently enough informing us of the products purpose and efficacy.  With the same cheery voice-over however, much of the commercial is spent telling us, the consumer all the ways in which the product may harm us…or even kill us.  It was not that long ago that I was listening to a commercial about a prescription medication for depression that may cause suicidal thoughts for the people who use it.

These products sell, in my opinion, for one of two reasons.  First, the condition the products purports to cure is so severe that the user does a cost benefits analysis and determines the risk does not outweigh the potential for relief.  Second, the user is so desperate for a solution that they ignore the associated hazards.  There are several examples of this in the health and wellness field.

The HCG Diet is a fairly recent addition to the weight loss arsenal…at least in the United States.  The HCG Diet

HCG Diet Kits The Price We are Willing to Pay to be Thin and Healthy

HCG Diet

works by tricking the body into believing that it is pregnant.  The HCG Hormone causes the body to mobilize fat to feed the fetus while reducing hunger.  Along with receiving injections the diet requires that you maintain a 500 calorie per day diet.  First off, I would argue that no diet that limits you to 500 calories per day could be healthy for you.  In addition, pregnancy is considered to be a disease state.  It increases morbidity and mortality in women…now, how bad do you want to be thin?  Ultimately, the program fails for many because you can’t stay with it forever.  Many doctors address this issue by starting the program all over again.  Do you see a problem here?

Another example is a new technique developed by doctors to use ultrasound to zap fat cells (  Essentially your fat cells are killed with a high-intensity focused ultrasound along with another treatment that freezes fat cells.  The promise is that you can achieve weight loss without surgery (sounds positive!).  What you might not realize is that if you kill off the fat cells in your stomach and you start to gain weight you could begin to store fat around your heart and liver…still sound like a good idea?

We are a nation of people looking for the short-cut.  We want to cut out the middle man to achieve success.  We are willing to do almost anything to achieve our goals related to fitness and appearance.  This may work well in business,

Isagenix 30 day The Price We are Willing to Pay to be Thin and Healthy

but rarely is it a good idea when it comes to our bodies.  There is a reason the health and diet section of the bookstores have new books every day.  Everyone is looking for a solution to their health and obesity problems with some new cure that requires little effort.  The bottom line is that the solution is what it has always been…good nutrition.  It is what brought my wife and I to nutritional cleansing and replenishing.  It is what keeps us using the system.  It offers high grade nutrition while cleansing the body of impurities.  We have continued for the last four years to experience success and we see no reason to believe the system will ever fail us.

If you would like to speak with us we would love to hear from you.  We believe in nutritional cleansing and replenishing with all our hearts and spread the word whenever given the opportunity.  If you would like to do some research on your own you can visit our web-site at, or you can call us at 1-866-982-3438.

The Hidden Stressors of Obesity

Friday, March 11th, 2011

In a recent health article on it was suggested that the stressors associated with obesity go far beyond health risks such as heart disease and diabetes.  The fact of the matter is that the stigma of obesity in

BigBellyREX 468x310 The Hidden Stressors of Obesity

our culture adds psychological pressures that further compromise a persons ability to achieve their health and wellness goals.  The fact that a person challenged by weight issues feels judged or discriminated against creates negative feelings that can actually cause a decline in physical health.

For anyone who has read this blog in the past you know my feelings on this subject.  I do not believe that it is right to judge someone based upon their appearance or level of physical fitness.  My Christian belief’s tell me that I am no better than anyone else and have no right to ridicule or discriminate against another person.  This does not mean that we should ignore the fact that someone maybe slowly killing themselves as a  result of their poor nutrition and fitness choices.  Positive change will only come about by first recognizing that  a problem exists and then by supporting that person to the best of your ability.

The weight issues that Tamara and I experienced happened before we even realized what was occuring.  We both found ourselves obese and neither of us was very happy.  I didn’t have to tell Tamara she was overweight and I heart attack The Hidden Stressors of Obesitydidn’t need anyone to tell me about my problem either.  The only point I ever made to Tamara was that I was concerned about her health.  I didn’t want to be raising two kids by myself…and I certainly did not want to lose my wife to a heart attack or diabetes (both are prevalent on her side of the family).  I was supportive by telling her that she would always be my “standard of beauty” and that I would never compare her to other women.  Tamara, however, knew that something needed to be done as did I.

Our initial efforts to solve our obesity problems took different paths (mine was focused primarily in the gym and hers was through trying various diets).  It was not until we discovered nutritional cleansing and replenishing (Isagenix) that we found our personal solutions.

Ultimately, my point is this.  People should not be judging those people with weight issues; but, obese people have obligations as well.  The idea that the world should simply accept the fact that we are the fattest nation in the world and getting fatter all the time is just not going to work.  We all need to work a little harder.  If you are overweight I don’t want you to be stressed as I think that only compounds an eating problem.  But you have to do something.

If you would like to talk about what was successful for Tamara and I then you can call us at 1-866-982-3438.  If you want to do some of your own research you can go to

Charlie Sheen1 Making a Decision for Positive Change

Charlie Sheen

I have been following the saga of Charlie Sheen, the star of the wildly successful television show Two and a Half Men, and his battle with CBS.  It is difficult to watch people self-destruct right in front of your eyes.  I think it can be especially difficult for you when you sit squarely in the national spotlight like Mr. Sheen, Lindsey Lohan or Amy Winehouse.  There is no escape and everyone gets to see you fail over and over again.  After years of being told that you are perfect, respected and adored it is hard to admit that you are none of these things.  It can be even harder to admit that you literally have to change who you are in order to survive.  It is much easier to believe you can “make” people accept the life you have chosen.

I have some experience with addictive personalities based upon my primary profession as a law enforcement officer.  I have learned that the hardest step in walking away from destruction is admitting that you have a problem.  Until you are able to do a cost benefit analysis of your life and determined that you will lose more by maintaining the status quo than by committing yourself to some kind of change, a destructive path may seem acceptable…even normal.  Even when the decision is

Obesity 1 Making a Decision for Positive Change

Obesity in America

made to change your life most people seek out a path to least resistance in order to accomplish this end.  Those of you who read this blog on a consistent basis know the title of my favorite and most inspiring book.  This book makes it clear that the road less traveled may be the most difficult initially.  In the end, however, choosing this path above all others can reap rewards that you never realize existed.

I have taken a rather circuitous path to get to my ultimate point as it relates to Nutritional Cleansing.  I would argue, however, that it was worth your wait.  There are many addictions such as alcoholism and drug that can slowly chip away at a person’s happiness, health and peace of mind.  Most of them are open for discussion and are obvious to our family, friends and associations.  Often these addictions are ignored because no one likes conflict…no one likes to be the bad guy to tell you that you have a problem.  I will be the bad guy here and tell you that if you are engaged in a lifestyle that is resulting in obesity and its associated weight-related health conditions then you have a problem and you better do something about it sooner than later.  As I have stated in the past, many of us have become quite accepting of you overweight and obese people.  The reason is simple…you are in the majority.  Statistically, you outnumber the people that fall into the range of what is considered to be a “normal” and healthy weight.  You, in fact, have become the norm.  Your addiction is no longer considered a “problem”.  We get yelled at and confronted if we say being overweight is unattractive, unhealthy and a poor example to our family and friends.

What if instead of an addiction to food, our nation was addicted to Cocaine or Meth?  Would we continue to hesitate to point out the elephant in the room or would we all be screaming from the rooftops that something needed to be done?  I’m screaming!!  There are many solutions to the various addictions including food addictions.  I liken them to the various fitness routines.  If I told you that the only resolution to your weight problem was by jogging many of you would throw up your hands and simply say, “I guess I am meant to die at an early age  overweight and  unhealthy”.  I would be right there with you as I would rather have a long slow root canal than run five miles.  I believe that fitness in the gym comes down to finding the routine which appeals to you and motivates you as an individual.  Maybe it is aerobics, maybe it is spinning or maybe it is 183995 1619961700757 1287852844 31620473 4682297 n Making a Decision for Positive Changeweight training.  Maybe it is a combination of all three.  Regardless you can’t go on your first run and decide that exercise and fitness just isn’t for you.

The same can be said for choosing a health and wellness program.  Nutritional Cleansing and Replenishing is not for everyone.  I have had my fair share of people tell me that they just couldn’t do it.  I take exception to the “couldn’t” part as I believe that human beings are capable of doing literally anything they set their minds to.  I tell my kids this every day and I believe it is starting to set in.  All I have to do is look at my daughter on the podium at her national archery tournament this weekend to know that this is true.  Nutritional Cleansing and Replenishing has been wildly successful for my family and literally thousands of people I have met over the course of the last four years.  If you decide Nutritional Cleansing is not something you “want” to do, I can accept this assertion.  I would assert in response, however, that the vast majority of you remain without excuse for your condition.  There are solutions out there.  If you want to try what has worked for my family, Tamara and I would love to tell you more.  You can call us at 1-866-982-3438 or you can reach us through our web-site at

Aren’t all Powder Proteins the Same?

Sunday, February 20th, 2011

There are two elements associated with a nutritional cleansing and replenishing program.  The first element involves the cleansing of impurities from the body.  I liken it to an STP treatment for your engine.  Youlogo stp Aren’t all Powder Proteins the Same? remove the impurities and your engine runs more efficiently.  In your body your engine running better means your metabolism is more efficient, and as an added benefit you have a tendency to lose weight.  I have found with my own nutritional cleansing and replenishing system that my body’s metabolism has a tendency to center itself.  I released pounds and found a weight that optimized my fitness level and athletic performance.

The second step to achieving a healthy lifestyle is to replenish the body with high grade nutrition.  Many athletes use a variety of vitamins and supplements to accomplish this end.  This is critical considering the poor state of health and fitness in this country and some of the junk we consider food.  One of the most common means by which athletes replenish their bodies is with a protein-based thumbnail.aspx?q=525279038240&id=31a9d4dc965f89831fee6092948d94eb& Aren’t all Powder Proteins the Same?powder.  There are several different protein powders on the market at the present time that can be mixed into flavored meal replacement shakes (usually a chocolate meal replacement shake or a vanilla meal replacement shake).  The options presented below are in order from least to most effective/comprehensive in achieving total health and fitness.

Whey Powder

Of the three options I will discuss, this is the least expensive of the protein powders.  There are three different types of whey protein to include hydrolyzed whey protein, whey protein isolate, and whey protein concentrateWhey protein contains little fat and cholesterol and is also low in lactose.  There are few carbohydrates and it is high in calciumWhey protein increases training related fat loss if consumed immediately before or after you work out.  Whey protein also increases protein synthesis if taken right before or after a work out.  It is easily digested and absorbed.

Whey Protein/Calcium Caseinate Protein Powder

This blend of ingredients provides two different protein sources that are absorbed in different ways.  The whey protein is quickly absorbed while the calcium caseinate protein is absorbed much more slowly.  This combination gives you an immediate source of protein as well as a time released source over time.  This combination increases fat loss when consumed just before or after your workout.  The added element of calciumIsaLean Nutrition Aren’t all Powder Proteins the Same? caseinate is synthesized from dried skim milk.

Whey Protein/Calcium Caseinate Protein/Carbohydrate Powder:

This is the blend that I use and seems to offer the greatest benefit to those looking to improve overall health and wellness, manage their weight and build lean muscle mass.  The introduction of carbohydrates and fat to this blend of proteins creates a super food for those looking to…

  • Maximize nutrient absorption
  • Support vital body functions
  • Build Lean Muscle
  • Manage weight

I would suggest to anyone looking to incorporate a protein powder into their diets and work-out routines to read the label.  Not all protein powders are the same so a little research is necessary.  If you would like to talk about the protein-based meal replacement shake that I am taking which falls into the last category I would be happy to talk to you about it.

“Go Packers!”, But don’t pack on Excess Weight

Sunday, February 6th, 2011

Super Bowl 2011 Official Logo “Go Packers!”, But don’t pack on Excess WeightWell, the big day is tomorrow.  The Green Bay Packers face the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV.  I grew up in Chicago watching the Bears, but my allegiances for the game tomorrow were established the day I married my wife.  She grew up in Green Bay, so unless I want to sleep on the couch I will have to root on the Packers.  That’s ok…I have grown to love the Packers just like her.

I will have to be careful about what I eat tomorrow, though, based upon a recent article that discussed post-Super Bowl related deaths.  The article did not suggest I would die from being hit by an errant linebacker while standing on the sidelines (fat chance of that happening since I am not going to spend $5000.00 a ticket to watch a football game).  Instead the article (Super Bowl Losses can Increase Cardiac Death, January 31, 2011, Medicine and Health/Health) asserted that sports fans who became excessively involved in rooting for their favorite team only to have their efforts go in vain are susceptible to high degrees of emotional distress.  This emotional distress seemed to lead to increased instances of cardiac deaths.  In men there was a 15 percent increase in all circulatory deaths associated with a Super Bowl loss.  Women apparently take their football even more seriously than men as they saw a 27 percent increase in cardiac deaths.

chips pretzels sides xl “Go Packers!”, But don’t pack on Excess WeightNow if this doesn’t prompt you to want to take better care of yourself on the big day, then I don’t know what will.  I would suggest that you should not be filling your body with artery clogging, high cholesterol, fat-filled foods (why load the dice before you roll them?).  In a recent press release from the Calorie Control Council dated January 24, 2011 titled Score Big with Healthy Super Bowl Recipes; Push Unhealthy Snacks to the Sideline on Game Day, some disturbing statistics were revealed.  On Super Bowl Sunday Americans will eat 30 million pounds of snacks.  This will include 11.2 million pounds of potato chips, 8.2 million pounds of tortilla chips and 2.5 million pounds of nuts.  The average football fan will consume 1200 calories and 50 grams of fat from snacking.  Those totals do not include meals.

The press release recommended that everyone pre-plan their game day festivities to include only non-fat or low fat foods.  In addition, a pre-game work-out could help to burn off calories to make room for the food you will eat throughout the course of the day.

Heart Health and Isagenix®

Friday, December 10th, 2010

What is the number one factor in determining your physical fitness?  Why, it’s your heart rate of course.  This knowledge can actually help you to maximize your weight loss during physical activity.  Coupled with one of the heart rate training partI Heart Health and Isagenix®many Isagenix® systems you can improve your overall health and fitness by simply tracking your heart rate.

There is a very simple formula by which you can determine the most effective heart rate for you to lose weight and get fit.  Broken down into basic terms your heart is a large pump that pushes oxygenated blood from your lungs to the rest of your body.  Your muscles depend on this oxygenated blood to perform like God intended them to.  In addition, your heart rate not only tells you how hard you are working, but also whether or not your workout is effective in your efforts to lose weight.

First, it is important to know that the average person’s resting heart rate is somewhere between 60-100 beats per minute.  As a person increases their level of fitness, this number may drop.  The key to an effective workout is to get this resting heart rate into a zone that increases the likelihood for fat loss after all other fuels are burned.  I discussed the concept of fuel consumption in a previous blog (Cardio vs. Weight Training and Weight Loss, November 24, 2010).  I introduced you to the process by which your body burns fuel and where fat falls into that continuum.  I mentioned at the conclusion of that article that your heart rate is the last vital important piece to that puzzle.  Knowing how to use this knowledge can make or break any person’s goal to achieve a healthy weight.  Here is how you make that determination.

1.         Subtract your age from 220 to calculate your maximum heart rate.

2.         Identify your fitness goal from one of the following zones:

50-60% of Maximum Heart Rate

Warm Up Zone.  Good zone to start a fitness regimen for the first time.  It has been shown to decrease body fat, blood pressure and cholesterol

60-70% of Maximum Heart Rate

This zone is the “fat burning” zone.  The percent of fat calories is 85%.elliptical trainer Heart Health and Isagenix®

70-80% of Maximum Heart Rate

You are now entering an aerobic zone which is good for endurance training.  Fifty percent of calories burned are from fat.

80-90% of Maximum Heart Rate

This is the anaerobic zone which improves the cardiorespiratory system and increases endurance over time.  More calories are burned and 15% are from fat.

90-100% of Maximum Heart Rate

Burns the highest number of calories but is not recommended unless you are in very good shape.

3.         Once you determine your fitness goal, for the purposes of our discussion—burning fat, you would multiply your maximum heart rate by the appropriate percentage,  e.g.  I am a 46 year old male.  I would subtract 46 from 220 which equates to a maximum heart rate of 174.  I would then multiply this number by 60-70% and learn my heart rate goal for weight loss is between 104 and 121.

Based upon information provided in previous posts, I warm-up at the beginning of my work-out to elevate my heart workout routine 1000189 Heart Health and Isagenix®rate up to the desired level.  I then engage in some form of resistance training for 20-30 minutes since I want to have the good fuel to power my muscles.  I also know that the more muscles I have the more fat I will burn to fuel them.  Finally, I hop on the elliptical or treadmill for 25-30 minutes as I know that my fat is the last thing to go when I work-out.  Everyone is a little different and you need to experiment to find what best works for you.  With this said this progression may be a good place to start.
