Celiac Disease, Gluten and the Isagenix IsaLean Shake

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

Several weeks ago my wife was with my 13 year old daughter at her archery training.  My daughter has been doing archery now for over three years and is doing quite well.  My wife has sponsored my daughter through herIsagenix%20Isalean%20Shake%20Chocolate Celiac Disease, Gluten and the Isagenix IsaLean Shake Isagenix business which makes perfect sense.  My daughter drinks an Isagenix IsaLean shake with me before going to school every morning.  She is in great shape and doesn’t need to lose weight, but she does desire to gain strength and lean muscle.  The IsaLean Shake has been helping her to accomplish this goal.

Since my wife is her sponsor and covers all of her expenses, you can find my daughter wearing a “bling” covered Isagenix shirt at every tournament.  You can also find an Isagenix sticker on her bow case.

At this particular practice my wife was approached by a woman who began

Celiac Disease, Gluten and the Isagenix IsaLean Shake

asking her about Isagenix after noticing the sticker.  The woman indicated that she suffered from a fairly rare disorder called Celiac Disease.  A disorder, up to this point, my wife and I had never heard of.  The woman indicated that she wanted to speak with Tamara more as she had done some research on her own and believed that Isagenix products may be able to help her with her ailment.

When my wife got home she told me of her conversation and I began to search through Google for information on Celiac Disease.  Credibility has always been of extreme importance to me.  If I am going to lay claim to knowing what I am talking about I better be sure of my facts.  This is what I found.

Celiac Disease is a condition that damages the lining of the small intestine and as a result prevents it from absorbing nutrients from food that are vital for staying healthy.  As a result, people suffering from this disease can become malnourished no matter how much food they eat.  No one knows what causes the disease; however, doctors believe the damage to the small intestine is due to a reaction from eating gluten.  Essentially gluten elicits an improper response from the immune system

Doctors believe there may be up to 3 million people currently affected by Celiac Disease.  It is also believed that the disease is severely underdiagnosed.  Some of the common symptoms include:

  • Diarrhea

celiac disease type1 diabetes Celiac Disease, Gluten and the Isagenix IsaLean Shake

    Celiac Disease

  • Abdominal Pain
  • Gas
  • Bloating
  • Weight Loss

Some additional indications that might point to Celiac Disease include:

  • Blistering
  • Itchy skin rash
  • Anemia
  • Short Stature
  • Infertility
  • Tooth Enamel Defects

So why was this woman asking Tamara about isagenix?  She knew what I have since learned.  The Isagenix IsaLean Shake is a high nutrient formula that is gluten free, wheat free and barley free

I would never presume to make medical claims about the curative powers of IsagenixIsagenix is  not a “cure” to anything.  Rather, I simply state the obvious to those suffering from Celiac Disease.  Most of the Isagenix products avoid the ingredients that cause your anguish while providing you with a high quality nutrition source.

Validation from Marilyn Vos Savant!

Friday, November 19th, 2010

In my last post I discussed the Kansas State University Professor who decided he was going to eat nothing but junk-food for 10 straight weeks.  The end result of his experiment was that he was able to lose weight by simply counting all the calories in the junk he ate.  You can congratulate him on his success if you wish; however, I still contend that if he continued with that diet his quality of life would rapidly deteriorate.  I believe he would be sick more often and would die earlier than he would if he had taken better care of himself.

In 1984 Jim Fixx the author of The Complete Book of Running, collapsed while jogging at the age of 52 and died.  There were jim fixx Validation from Marilyn Vos Savant!many who found amusement in this irony and claimed that it proved it didn’t matter how you lived, you were still going to die.  The dying part is an inevitability, the “when” is always less clear.  I believe greater clarity in this arena is achieved through better life decisions. You could argue that Mr. Fixx wasted his time by taking good care of himself; but, there are some important factors to consider.  First, Jim started running in the 1960’s when he weighed 220 pounds.  By 1977 he was running an average of 60 miles every week and his weight was down to 159 lbs.  “So what” you may say.  He was in great shape, treated his body well and still died young.  Why should we care?  Jim’s father died of a heart attack at the age of 43.  Jim may have died at an early age, but he suffered from hereditary heart problems.  His coronary arteries had blockages of 99%, 80% and 70% and his cholesterol level was above 250 mg/dl.  I wonder how long Jim Fixx would have lasted if he had remained obese and had never quickened his pace.    Parade Magazine Validation from Marilyn Vos Savant!

Later on the same day that I posted my last blog I was reading the Parade Magazine in my local paper as I am wont to do on a Sunday morning and noticed an article by Marilyn vos Savant.  The topic she addressed was amazingly similar to the one I had written about in my post (http://www.parade.com/askmarilyn/2010/11/Sundays-Column-11-14-10.html).

There is a very good reason why there is a syndicated column called Ask Marilyn®.  Marilyn vos Savant is a very smart person who gives intelligent answers to hard questions.  What was the question at hand?  Does weight loss or gain depend solely on the number of calories you consume or is it more dependent upon the type of food you eat?  Her answer, I believe validates many of the ideas I have discussed with this blog.  Essentially, she asserted that “a calorie is a calorie, whether it comes from butter, sugar, or meat.”  In a later article she stated that you cannot gain more than a pound from eating a pound of food, regardless of what the food is (http://www.parade.com/askmarilyn/2010/11/Eat-One-Pound-Gain-Five-Pounds-16.html).  However, she went on to explain that where the calorie comes from Marilyn Vos Savant Validation from Marilyn Vos Savant!influences the way our bodies function.  Some food takes longer to digest while others produce a faster rise in blood sugar.  If you make the right choices related to your health, nutrition and fitness then your body works the way God intended.

Friendships, Relationships and Weight Loss

Monday, November 8th, 2010

Harvard University researchers have predicted that within the next 40 years Americans will hit a 42% obesity rate (http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE6A35SO20101104).  I know I know…It seems that every time I sit down to write at my computer lately, I end up being the bearer of bad news.  Unfortunately, there is a lot of bad newsHarvard logo Friendships, Relationships and Weight Loss to report when it comes to the health and fitness of United States citizens.  I will make a note to write a more positive offering in my next post.  We still must address these recent findings.  In a past blog I noted that we, as Americans have become much more accepting of excessive weight and obesity simply because it has become so prevalent.  It is infinitely more difficult to critique someone else’s problems when you share that same problem.  As my favorite book so profoundly states, “”Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?”  Too many people are carrying around that plank.

I attend various Bible studies and church groups throughout the year.  I do this to accomplish several ends.  First, I am an information junkie.  I never want to be caught with my pants down unable to address a challenge or question; especially when it comes to questions of my faith.  I know I will never know it all; however, the more information I have the better position I am in to defend that which is most important to me; the health of my family and friends fall into a similar category.

The second reason I find myself at church so often is due to a desire for full accountability.  I do not mean that I wish to Obesity Friendships, Relationships and Weight Losshold others accountable; rather, I wish to surround myself with people who will hold me accountable and let me know when I am not living the life I wish for…a life of character and strength.  So what does this all have to do with effective weight loss, effective weight control and fitness?  The very first line of the article states, “Americans will keep growing fatter until 42% of the nation is considered obese, and having fat friends is part of the problem…”

Essentially, the researchers determined that your friends are a reflection of you and visa versa.  If you hang out with people that drink too much then you need to ask yourself if you drink too much as well.  Likewise, if your friends are obese then eating may become an issue in your life.  Maybe it is already.  It is very hard, if not impossible for an alcoholic to stay clear of his/her demon if all their friends meet at a bar.  The same is true for you if you have difficulties with your weight and all of your friends meet at the desert bar.

Because our national weight problem is getting worse, things will become exponentially more difficult for people with weight challenges.  There are fewer people out there that take their weight seriously, so the relational support systems are disappearing.  The study showed that “…an American adult has a 2% chance of becoming obese in any given year, and each obese social contact increases the risk of becoming obese by .5% per year.

So what is the solution?  The first step is to find a weight loss and fitness program that you can do like Isagenix®.  The 30-Day Cleansing and Fat Burning System or the 9-Day Cleansing and Fat Burning System may be thethe biggest loser Friendships, Relationships and Weight Loss path to a thinner you.  It certainly was for Tamara and me.  However, if your friends and family are constantly challenging your efforts by offering you candy, chips and soda then that path will be filled with landmines that may undermine your success.

Therefore, the second step is to make a choice.  Either extricate yourself from that social circle (this is very difficult I know), or decide to be the example.  Tell your friends or family that you are seeking their support or organize a “Biggest Loser” contest.  See Tamara’s Biggest Loser story here…

Inspiration!

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

Man Leonardo da Vinci Inspiration!I was reviewing my Facebook page today and realized that one of my community pages is called “Inspiration”.  Everyone that knows me well knows that my family is the primary inspiration in my life.  Other than God it is what drives my engine and shapes most of my decisions.  One of those daily decisions involves taking care of my body.  I want to be around for a very long time to enjoy my kids and my grand-kids (…and maybe my great grand-kids).

Every single day I wake up, I take my Isagenix® supplements, I take aIsalean Shake Inspiration! shot of Isagenix Ionix Supreme®, and I drink one of my Isagenix Isa-Lean Shakes®.  Vanilla is my favorite because I think it tastes like a McDonald’s® milk shake.  My wife prefers the chocolate because she said it tastes like a Wendy’s Frosty®.  I like the chocolate, but I like to throw a little peanut butter in it…it tastes just like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup®.  My wife likes the chocolate whipped into a mocha shake with a teaspoon of Instant coffee and a tablespoon of the Isagenix IsaCrunch®.

The best part of my morning ritual is that my 13 year old daughter is now enjoying the Isagenix Isa-Lean Shakes® with me.  She has her IsaKids® Essentials chewable vitamins and her shake every morning.  Since we both get up at the same time, it is an opportunity for us to talk about the coming day.  Every morning my daughter emerges from her bedroom and says “can you start my shake?”  It is exciting and gratifying that my daughter is starting at an early age to take care of herself.  My family has become a perpetual motion machine where we constantly motivate each other to success in all things.

michelle 370x278 Inspiration! As a result, I was very disappointed to read an article today about the First Lady Michelle Obama’s proposal to limit food advertisers.  Not that I like the fact that companies constantly bombard my kids with commercials about sugar coated cereals and candy, rather I am disheartened that we as a nation are incapable of resisting these ads.  By suggesting we need to limit a company’s access to us, we are admitting that we are incapable of making the right decisions for ourselves and our families and that we are too weak to resist all the junk food out there.  I would like to think that my family is proving the First Lady wrong every day.

Here is my challenge to you.  Get inspired!!  Resist all the additives, preservatives and chemicals that are present in our sodas, cereal boxes and processed foods.  Don’t depend on others to tell you what is right for your family.  Find yourself an alternative which leads to a healthy life for yourself and your family.  For my family that alternative is Isagenix® with its amazing products and paks like the Isagenix Total Health and Wellness System®.  If you won’t make this commitment for yourself then do it for your family’s future!
