Nutrition and Behavior

Can diet and nutrition affect a child’s behavior?  Several weeks ago Tamara and I were watching one of the Medical Marijuana Nutrition and Behaviorprime time news shows that presented a story on the legalization of medical marijuana.  They offered several case studies in an attempt to justify the position that medical marijuana should be available to everyone.  One of the stories involved a mother who was experiencing significant behavioral issues with her young teen-age son.  The boy’s mother argued that marijuana was the only solution to the boy’s bad behavior.  I have so many problems with this mother’s decision that I don’t know where to start.  I have just as many issues with the doctor that provided the “prescription”.  The fact that I have been a law enforcement officer since 1987 has probably affected my view on this topic.

Another striking aspect to this story was that the boy was obviously overweight, out of shape and maintained a poor level of fitness.  Furthermore, the boy was shown throughout the story eating what we refer to in our house as “garbage”.  I did not witness the boy eating anything healthy!  Why is this significant?   There has been a great deal of debate during the last several decades as to whether or not behavioral problems are tied to nutrition.  I recently read an article by the Bamford-Lahey Children’s Foundation that science is now starting to believe that what we eat, to a certain extent, determines how we behave.

The study that resulted in the article made some important conclusions.

  1. There is support for the hypothesis that diet can affect learning and behavior.
  2. There is support for the hypothesis that certain food additives and particular foods may have a potential role in developmental disorders.
  3. Some children diagnosed as ADHD are sensitive to particular foods or food additives and that this sensitivity can affect their learning and behavior.  What is even more significant is when these offending substances are removed from the diet of such children positive changes are reported in behavior and mental processing.

As I read the article I was reminded of Isagenix Associate Angela Lovelace’s storyangela s photo transformation Nutrition and Behavior (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-flRXHIQX00).  As you watch her video you realize there is no denying Angela underwent a transformation in her life.  Furthermore, there is no denying that Isagenix® played a major role in this change.  Even if in the end you find yourself questioning the direct connection between her dietary change and her change in personality you must accept that her newfound confidence came from her ability to take charge of her body with Isagenix®.  I had the pleasure of meeting Angela at this year’s Isagenix® Celebration and it is hard to believe that this girl used to do nothing but eat and watch television.

prod nutrition isakids 2 Nutrition and BehaviorI have been asked on several occasions recently whether or not Isagenix® products are safe for kids.  I have a previous post that addresses the specific products that your kids can take.  I hope you will take the time to read it as I believe it can only be a positive change for all of our kids.  If you would like to find out more you can visit my web-site at http://www.cleansebenefits.com or call me toll free at 1-866-982-DIET (3438).

Police Sergeant’s Wife Provides Financial Freedom For Her Family With Isagenix®

Tamaraprimary 280x240 150x150 Police Sergeants Wife Provides Financial Freedom For Her Family With Isagenix®The story below is from an interview I did with Isagenix in 2008.  It was posted on the company website in January, 2009.

Tamara, a 45-year-old mother of two from Arizona, has turned her 65-pound* weight-loss success with Isagenix® into a thriving business that has changed her family’s life. Now, instead of struggling to make ends meet on her husband’s police officer salary, Tamara and her family are taking vacations and even saving for college for their kids.

Tamara first tried Isagenix to lose weight for a class reunion. Initially a skeptic, Tamara was stunned by her success with the Cleansing and Fat Burning System. She has been using Isagenix ever since and was able to shed the 65 pounds* she struggled to lose despite going to the gym and watching what she ate.

“I felt absolutely amazing. Since I was feeling so good and had great results it was easy to stay motivated and keep going. I’m on the maintenance system now and have been able to keep the weight off,” shares Tamara, who follows the system with her husband Bruce, who dropped 16 pounds and two pants sizes.*

Tamara admits she was a “closet user” of the products as it took her nearly three months before she started sharing Isagenix with her family and friends.

“People asked me what I was doing because I was a much happier person and had lost a significant amount of weight so I started sharing my experience with them,” explains Tamara. “All of a sudden it clicked that I could help a lot of people by sharing Isagenix and generating income for my family at the same time. I’ve never looked back from there.”

Tamara’s efforts to build her Isagenix business started slowly, but soon her financial success was paying for the cost of the monthly products that the entire family was using. Once the couple reached that benchmark, they decided to start dreaming big. Could Isagenix help the family afford a vacation, a second home or even early retirement?

She started sharing her weight-loss story with everyone she met. It wasn’t always easy, but she maintained a conscientious effort to talk about Isagenix, even to people who were skeptical just like she had once been. She also started setting concrete goals and visualizing what the results of her efforts could be.

“One day, I came across a model home that I fell in love with that I knew we couldn’t afford,” shares Tamara, recalling her early months in the business. “Three months later we signed a contract on the house. I had it in the back of my mind and before I knew it, one of our dreams had come true.”

In addition to their dream home, Tamara’s Isagenix business has allowed her to more than replace the income of her once full-time job** and spend more time with her kids. The family recently took their first vacation that didn’t require a charge card and are even considering a vacation home in Wisconsin. Last year the family was also able to get through the holidays without having to go into debt.

Her family’s most important financial goals are to pay for college for the kids and help her husband Bruce take early retirement from the police force when he is eligible in four years.

It hasn’t always been easy, but Tamara believes that persistence pays off. A friend of hers owns a gym and it took Tamara over a year to get her on board with Isagenix. Now, they work together in the business. Tamara has also switched from product emphasis to the financial aspects of the business, noting that different people are looking for different things.

“I’m redirecting my approach now, “shares Tamara. “The economy and the financial opportunity that Isagenix offers are definitely on the forefront of people’s minds.”

Above all she believes in sharing the power of her personal experience and success with Isagenix with everybody she meets, which has helped her business to keep growing steadily.

“We’re able to live a lifestyle now that I never dreamt was possible,” says Tamara. “There are more important things than money, but it does make things easier sometimes. Having the extra financial security in our lives is really nice. It has allowed us to live a better life as a family.”
