What influences Your Childs Eating Habits?

Monday, October 10th, 2011

I have some good news.  You may have more influence on your children than you give yourself credit for.  When my children were very young my wife and I struggled with the decision to have her work outside the home and bring in a second income, or have her stay home to raise our kids.  Several years later this decision would lead her into a profession that would offer her the best of both worlds.  Those that know us know I am referring to our network marketing business.  At the time of this decision however we were both very concerned about the financial challenges we may experience.  Even though this perceived hardship was later determined to be mostly unfounded we still needed to conduct a cost/benefit analysis of our decision.  In the end we realized that our concern for our children’s future far outweighed the question of how to make wealth.  We realized that in 20 years our children were going to be our legacy.  They were going to reflect back on us for good or bad.  If our children turned out well and reflected the values we believe are important, then we would be able to take some credit.  Conversely, if they turnedlovinit What influences Your Childs Eating Habits? out poorly we were going to have to take the blame.

Sometimes we as parents relinquish some of our responsibility, but in the process also relinquish some of our control over our childrens future.  We may blame the behavior of our children on their choice in friends; or the influence of their school; or the television shows that they watch.  I believe that these influences, however, are provided power over them by the decisions we as parents make about the examples we set for our children.  Our kids see where we go, what we do, and who we associate with and determine that these decisions are appropriate for them as well.  They choose the friends they do because those are the types of friends we keep.  They may be  influenced at school because we have failed to provide them with the proper tools to survive in an environment that may contradict our own belief system.  They are influenced adversely by television because we don’t retain an interest in what they are watching.

In a recent article in MyHealthNewsDaily they discussed a study dealing with the influence that television commercials have on kids decisions about the foods they eat and the smart eating choices they make.  Surprisingly it was determined that when parents intervene and discuss the commercials and the choices offered about proper nutrition, children can be positively influenced by their parents.  Therefore, all hope is not lost.  Just because McDonald’s tells your kids they should be “lovin’ it” when referring to french fries, you just may be able to convince your kids to love apples or grapes!

Givers Get

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

As many of you are aware Mark Victor Hansen is one of my favorite writers when it comes to the topic of success.  He does not limit his discussions to financial independence; rather, he believes success manifests itself in many

The One Minute Millionaire

forms.  One of the concepts presented in his book The One Minute Millionaire is the belief that “givers get”.  Essentially, Mr. Hansen claims that rewards quite often present themselves as a direct result of a person’s selflessness.  I have read accounts and been personal witness to people living out this belief on numerous occasions.

My own belief in Mr. Hansen’s assertion has caused me to share my Isagenix success story with others, and my wife Tamara feels the same way.  Even if we had never experienced the amazing financial success we have had through our association with Isagenix international, we still would have felt a burning desire to share with others the incredible health benefits of this nutritional cleansing and replenishing program.  We feel so strongly about the life changing potential of Isagenix products that We feel the reward comes from the opportunity to change someones life for the better.  For some, the idea of simply offering support and information to others does not seem like much of a personal reward, but just like watching your child open a special gift on Christmas morning, realizing that you could be offering someone the gift of a better, healthier life is a truly incredible feeling.

William "The Refrigerator" Perry

So how does this whole “givers get” idea work?  I offer two recent examples.  In 2007 Superbowl veteran William “The Refrigerator” Perry, formerly of the Chicago Bears, put his Superbowl ring up for auction.  Shortly thereafter Mr. Perry was stricken with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a disease that can cause paralysis.  In 2011 a 10-year old boy heard about Mr. Perry’s ordeal and happened upon what he believed to be Mr. Perry’s ring.  With the permission of his parent’s, the 10-year old took $8500.00 of his college fund and purchased the ring.  He then made arrangements to meet Mr. Perry and return the ring.  It was truly an act of a “giver” that will surely be rewarded in the long run.  Mr. Perry was extremely appreciative and gave the boy two signed jersey’s and several signed football cards.

This past sunday the pastor at my church told the story of his trip to a restaurant with his family.  He has several children which means that every outing to eat costs a fair amount of money.  On this particular venture he went to pay his bill and was told that the cashier had paid for his families meal.  Dumbfounded, he approached the young cashier who obviously made little money and told her he would not allow her to offer such a generous gift.  The cashier responded that she had been saving her money for some time so she could commit herself to this unselfish act, and that he had no right to deny her the pleasure of it.  As I have in the past when witnessing similar acts, if I had been present for this event I would have tried to do something special for this girldraft lens8781511module77306681photo 1262630011cashier Givers Get in return.  I would venture a guess that most people would if given the opportunity.

I guess that  is why it is so easy for me to talk about Isagenix with people.  I see the change that the products have made in my life, and the life of my family and want to share it with anyone who will listen.  If you would like to find out more about our Isagenix success stories, whether your desire is to lose weight, improve your health and wellness, or experience financial success, then you can visit our web-site at http://www.cleansebenefits.com, or you can call Tamara toll free at 1-866-982-DIET (3438).

Being “Rich” With Isagenix and Nutritional Cleansing

Monday, May 30th, 2011
I quite often find myself being inspired with our Isagenix business by the sermons we hear at our church every Sunday.  As a matter of fact, this seems to be happening more and more frequently where the sermon seems to

Isagenix International

somehow tie in  with our health and wellness business.  There are times that I feel the sermon is speaking directly to me to the exclusion of everyone else in the room.  This obviously is not the case; however, it demonstrates how personal these messages can become to individual listeners.

Many people reject the events of their lives as being coincidence and happenstance.  I disagree with this assumption and believe with all of my heart that literally everything happens for a reason.  To take this belief one step further, I assume that everyone I meet is inserted into my life for some purpose of significance, and that I am supposed to glean something from the encounter.  This is why I have no fear when it comes to talking to complete strangers about topics I have passion for.  This has been of great assistance to me in speaking with people about the nutritional cleansing and replenishing system available through Isagenix International.  Accepting the fact that everyone I meet is meant to teach me something, the words of my pastor, and the fact that he spoke them to me is important, and worthy of thoughtful analysis.
Today’s sermon was about “being” rich (not “getting” rich).  This may sound strange to many of you who are struggling through the tough financial times we find ourselves in.  It seems odd that he would give a sermon with the premise that virtually everyone in the room was “rich”.  Yet my pastor was being accurate.  The vast majority of Americans are wildly rich when compared to the rest of the world.  The truth of the matter is 50% of our planet lives on $2.00 in wages per day.  I do not make this statement to make anyone feel guilty.  To the contrary, I believe there are legitimate reasons for us to have been blessed with such great abundance.  Unhappiness for many comes from the failure to recognize just how much we as a country have been blessed.  Acting with the belief that we just don’t have enough has a tendency to make anyone unhappy.  I, on the other hand wake up every morning believing I am a very rich man.

Residual Income

I have some very nice things…things I never thought I would have, and most of the time I believe I don’t deserve.  I sometimes question the origin of my blessings.  I don’t mean who gave them to me…I know the answer to that.  I do, however, question the means by which he gave them to me.  In the end the answer is always the same.  I have fantastic

health and a steady means of residual income by which to enjoy it because of my association with Isagenix International.  The residual income we receive from this part-time job has blessed us beyond what we ever would have expected when we first started down the road of network marketing, or MLM.

I would never apologize for our success, because I would not have the things I do  if they were not conferred upon me.  But as Spiderman’s uncle once said, “with great power comes great responsibility”.  When referring to my success I remember an episode of Seinfeld where they repeated the line, “not that there is anything wrong with it”.  I don’t believe there is anything wrong with being successful in life as long as you are responsible with that success.
One of my heroes in life is Mark Victor Hansen.  Mark Hansen has written several books on wealth-building

and success.  He is also the co-author of the book Chicken Soup for the Soul.  Mr. Hansen asserts that we should seek enlightened wealth.  Essentially we should be the conduits of our blessings and not the repositories for them.  He also believes that givers get.  In the end, we as a nation must accept the fact that we are truly “rich”.  There is no doubt that there are degrees of being “rich”, and our interpretation of this word is often viewed from a sliding scale.  But when you accept just how blessed you are, you open up your heart to sharing these blessings.  Network marketing and Isagenix has been a means to an end for fulfilling that desire with my family.

Validation from Marilyn Vos Savant!

Friday, November 19th, 2010

In my last post I discussed the Kansas State University Professor who decided he was going to eat nothing but junk-food for 10 straight weeks.  The end result of his experiment was that he was able to lose weight by simply counting all the calories in the junk he ate.  You can congratulate him on his success if you wish; however, I still contend that if he continued with that diet his quality of life would rapidly deteriorate.  I believe he would be sick more often and would die earlier than he would if he had taken better care of himself.

In 1984 Jim Fixx the author of The Complete Book of Running, collapsed while jogging at the age of 52 and died.  There were jim fixx Validation from Marilyn Vos Savant!many who found amusement in this irony and claimed that it proved it didn’t matter how you lived, you were still going to die.  The dying part is an inevitability, the “when” is always less clear.  I believe greater clarity in this arena is achieved through better life decisions. You could argue that Mr. Fixx wasted his time by taking good care of himself; but, there are some important factors to consider.  First, Jim started running in the 1960’s when he weighed 220 pounds.  By 1977 he was running an average of 60 miles every week and his weight was down to 159 lbs.  “So what” you may say.  He was in great shape, treated his body well and still died young.  Why should we care?  Jim’s father died of a heart attack at the age of 43.  Jim may have died at an early age, but he suffered from hereditary heart problems.  His coronary arteries had blockages of 99%, 80% and 70% and his cholesterol level was above 250 mg/dl.  I wonder how long Jim Fixx would have lasted if he had remained obese and had never quickened his pace.    Parade Magazine Validation from Marilyn Vos Savant!

Later on the same day that I posted my last blog I was reading the Parade Magazine in my local paper as I am wont to do on a Sunday morning and noticed an article by Marilyn vos Savant.  The topic she addressed was amazingly similar to the one I had written about in my post (http://www.parade.com/askmarilyn/2010/11/Sundays-Column-11-14-10.html).

There is a very good reason why there is a syndicated column called Ask Marilyn®.  Marilyn vos Savant is a very smart person who gives intelligent answers to hard questions.  What was the question at hand?  Does weight loss or gain depend solely on the number of calories you consume or is it more dependent upon the type of food you eat?  Her answer, I believe validates many of the ideas I have discussed with this blog.  Essentially, she asserted that “a calorie is a calorie, whether it comes from butter, sugar, or meat.”  In a later article she stated that you cannot gain more than a pound from eating a pound of food, regardless of what the food is (http://www.parade.com/askmarilyn/2010/11/Eat-One-Pound-Gain-Five-Pounds-16.html).  However, she went on to explain that where the calorie comes from Marilyn Vos Savant Validation from Marilyn Vos Savant!influences the way our bodies function.  Some food takes longer to digest while others produce a faster rise in blood sugar.  If you make the right choices related to your health, nutrition and fitness then your body works the way God intended.

Friendships, Relationships and Weight Loss

Monday, November 8th, 2010

Harvard University researchers have predicted that within the next 40 years Americans will hit a 42% obesity rate (http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE6A35SO20101104).  I know I know…It seems that every time I sit down to write at my computer lately, I end up being the bearer of bad news.  Unfortunately, there is a lot of bad newsHarvard logo Friendships, Relationships and Weight Loss to report when it comes to the health and fitness of United States citizens.  I will make a note to write a more positive offering in my next post.  We still must address these recent findings.  In a past blog I noted that we, as Americans have become much more accepting of excessive weight and obesity simply because it has become so prevalent.  It is infinitely more difficult to critique someone else’s problems when you share that same problem.  As my favorite book so profoundly states, “”Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?”  Too many people are carrying around that plank.

I attend various Bible studies and church groups throughout the year.  I do this to accomplish several ends.  First, I am an information junkie.  I never want to be caught with my pants down unable to address a challenge or question; especially when it comes to questions of my faith.  I know I will never know it all; however, the more information I have the better position I am in to defend that which is most important to me; the health of my family and friends fall into a similar category.

The second reason I find myself at church so often is due to a desire for full accountability.  I do not mean that I wish to Obesity Friendships, Relationships and Weight Losshold others accountable; rather, I wish to surround myself with people who will hold me accountable and let me know when I am not living the life I wish for…a life of character and strength.  So what does this all have to do with effective weight loss, effective weight control and fitness?  The very first line of the article states, “Americans will keep growing fatter until 42% of the nation is considered obese, and having fat friends is part of the problem…”

Essentially, the researchers determined that your friends are a reflection of you and visa versa.  If you hang out with people that drink too much then you need to ask yourself if you drink too much as well.  Likewise, if your friends are obese then eating may become an issue in your life.  Maybe it is already.  It is very hard, if not impossible for an alcoholic to stay clear of his/her demon if all their friends meet at a bar.  The same is true for you if you have difficulties with your weight and all of your friends meet at the desert bar.

Because our national weight problem is getting worse, things will become exponentially more difficult for people with weight challenges.  There are fewer people out there that take their weight seriously, so the relational support systems are disappearing.  The study showed that “…an American adult has a 2% chance of becoming obese in any given year, and each obese social contact increases the risk of becoming obese by .5% per year.

So what is the solution?  The first step is to find a weight loss and fitness program that you can do like Isagenix®.  The 30-Day Cleansing and Fat Burning System or the 9-Day Cleansing and Fat Burning System may be thethe biggest loser Friendships, Relationships and Weight Loss path to a thinner you.  It certainly was for Tamara and me.  However, if your friends and family are constantly challenging your efforts by offering you candy, chips and soda then that path will be filled with landmines that may undermine your success.

Therefore, the second step is to make a choice.  Either extricate yourself from that social circle (this is very difficult I know), or decide to be the example.  Tell your friends or family that you are seeking their support or organize a “Biggest Loser” contest.  See Tamara’s Biggest Loser story here…

The Power of Words…

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

I have always been fascinated by the power of words.  I have used them to write and publish a book; I used them to author a nationally recognized school-based program; and   I now use them to create web-sites and resources that tell people about the greatest business on the planet, network marketing.  They have the ability to either positively or negatively affect those around us.  Just one utterance can change the entire make-up of any given interaction or alter a relationship forever.  More importantly for this discussion, however, is a words ability to shape a persons future.  My wife and I deal in a business that requires a positive attitude and dedication to a goal.  These two attributes can result in astounding success on many levels.  I know this because my wife and I have achieved far more than we ever thought possible…and we now see our potential as virtually limitless.

We meet people through our business, however, that fail to understand that a negative word can have a devastating impact on their future.  They do not understand that while a positive self-affirming word can be motivating and lead them down a path to success, a negative view of their own potential stated out loud will most likely lead to dismal failure.

I am somewhat of a visual learner…hence my love of movies.  My favorite movies are usually about the unexpected sports hero.  I can watch movies like Rudy, Invincible, The Rookie and Miracle over and over again.  This is because I aspire to the story of success despite major obstacles.  All of these movies tell the stories of individuals who had no business succeeding, yet they achieved their goals anyway.  I have studied these films and determined they all have one thing in common.  Each one of the characters refuses to believe that failure is an option.  Rather they seek out people who provide them with the positive motivation they need to beat the odds.  I believe everyone has this potential.

I have discussed this belief with a friend of mine who challenged me by saying “I can want to be a pro football player all day long, but it isn’t going to happen.”  My response is that he may be right, but if it is what he truly wants, he should assume he is wrong for two reasons.  First, by affirming his belief by stating it out loud he has ensured that he will never be a pro football player…everyone likes to be validated.  Second, if he sets his sights on becoming a professional athlete, by the time he realizes he has failed to reach his goal he will have achieved far more than he ever thought was possible (if you want to be a millionaire in one year and only make $750,000.00 in that same time frame, can you really claim failure).

Dempsey 150x150 The Power of Words...Maybe my friend should have considered Tom Dempsey, the kicker for the New Orleans Saints in 1970.  On November 8th of that year Mr. Dempsey kicked a 63 yard field goal…the longest in NFL history.  This was quite a feat, especially when it is considered that Mr. Dempsey had one hand and half a foot (incidentally, this was the foot he kicked with).

My ultimate purpose with this post is to bring everyone who reads it to the point that they have confidence in their own potential success.  For me and my wife, that success came in the form of financial independence and a return to the fitness level we were at the day we were married.  I believe we can show you how to achieve your goals as well.  If you bring the positive attitude and dedication, we will provide the support and training to help you achieve your goals.
