A Parent is Responsible for More Than Their Own Health

Saturday, August 27th, 2011

This premise may seem logical and reasonable.  The day anyone decides to have a child they give up the right to be a1546120 com 284pxobesi A Parent is Responsible for More Than Their Own Health bad example.   As a matter of fact, my opinion is that the day you start down the road to parenthood you relinquish all rights to selfishness and generally bad behavior.  This includes how you take care of yourself.

The axiom of “Do as I say, not as I do”, never works.  If you smoke cigarettes, there is a greater chance that you will raise a smoker.  If you drink to excess, do not be surprised if your child develops problems with alcohol as well.  Finally, if you fail to pay attention to your health, weight and nutrition you will probably have children that follow in your footsteps.  Our responsibilities in this area are not limited to the days following the birth of our children, however.

A recent study determined that exposing human embryos to high levels of saturated fat can actually harm the development of a child in utero.  The study went on to suggest that women should strive to achieve a healthy weight prior to having children.  The study focused on embryos from cattle but the implications from the study appeared to translate to human eggs as well.  Eggs exposed to high levels of fatty acids had fewer cells, altered genes and altered metabolic activity.  The scientists also believed the study provided some insight as to why obese women may have trouble conceiving in the first place.

fatty acids

Obese and overweight women have a tendency to metabolize more of the fat they store.  The fatty acids that are subsequently stored in the ovaries have been shown to be toxic to eggs.  Therefore, just like drinking alcohol or smoking cigarettes during pregnancy can have serious health implications to an unborn child, being severely overweight and failing to eat properly can likewise produce adverse effects.

A child doesn’t get a vote on who their parents will be.  They don’t get to choose the body in which they are conceived.  Therefore, the responsibility falls on the parent to do right by their children and make good choices, not only for their own health, but for the health of their children now and into the future.

The Pillars of Health

Thursday, August 18th, 2011

I spend a great deal of time on the CleanseBenefits Blog discussing issues related to health and obesity.  There is a subjectLONGEVITY The Pillars of Health of much deeper concern, however, that ties these posts together.  Everyone needs to examine the reasons why they are concerned about weight loss, weight control, nutrition and overall physical health.  The underlying motivation for many beyond the narcissistic desire for a better appearance is the hope for a better, longer and healthier life.  When considered from this perspective weight loss is only one component of achieving this end.

It is one thing for a person to live for 70 years as an invalid tied to a bed and medical devices designed to keep them alive for one more day.  It is an entirely different situation when someone lives for 80, 90 or more years as a vital and productive member of society.  Anyone who feels that they still have something to contribute while avoiding the potential to become a burden for others should have a desire to stay on this earth a while longer.  Society is quick to judge the elderly, and brush them to the side much too early.  It is understandable why some of our older citizens begin to devalue themselves as a result.  This is sometimes referred to as apoptosis, where the brain tells the body that it has outlived its usefulness and the only thing left to do is die.

I do not speak from experience, but I would venture a guess that many of our elderly in the United  States eventually lose their motivation for life when they assume they can no longer offer something of value to society.  Despite the fact that I believe

 The Pillars of Health

Quality of Life

everyone that is alive can offer something of value to include experience, advice and love I don’t think that everyone shares this belief.  I do believe that happiness plays a major role in a person’s health and their ability to remain productive in body, mind
and spirit.  When a person ceases to feel they contribute value it is sometimes harder to convince them that their presence is necessary to friends, relatives and loved ones.  It is difficult to remain happy with that mindset.

Therefore, we are brought to the topic of the day.  How does a person continue to feel as if they have value even as their body moves into the winter years?  How is it possible to live extended lives and remain healthy so we can continue to feel like a positive contributor to our communities?  This is a topic ever present in my heart and mind as it relates to me as well as my 80 year old parents.  What are the steps we can take to improve our health and quality of life to continue feeling like our lives
maintain meaning and purpose?  The answer lies in understanding what causes us to age and our bodies to break down.  If we can acquire this knowledge then we maybe able to alter the assumed inevitability of our lives as we move into our senior years.

There are essentially four categories of concern when it comes to understanding what it is that adversely affects our health, longevity and quality of life:

  • · Toxicitywoman in stress The Pillars of Health
  • · Obesity
  • · Stress
  • · Inflamation

If there were only a way to influence how these circumstances affect our body we may be able to limit their adverse affects.  Over the course of the next several days and weeks I will be discussing potential solutions to these concerns.

Stay tuned for more!

Does Colonic Irrigation Work?

Friday, August 5th, 2011
01 colonic irrigation Does Colonic Irrigation Work?

Colonic Irrigation

The topic of detoxification and nutritional cleansing are common to the CleanseBenefits Blog.  Depending on their circumstances many people are willing to try anything to lose weight and/or improve their appearance…even procedures and systems that may create health concerns that negate or overtake any presumed benefits.  Some people may conduct a cost/benefit analysis of a potential cure for their problems and decide that the associated warnings or concerns are acceptable to them if it results in a thinner waistline

It seems silly, however, to utilize such a procedure or systems when it is proven to have no benefit, or if the benefit does not produce the desired effect.  U.S. scientists have determined that a longstanding “treatment” with a large number of supporters does not achieve the ends previously assumed.  Colonic Irrigation has long been touted as a means for detoxification and weight loss, but it turns out these claims are unfounded.  As a matter of fact, Colonic Irrigation is now believed to potentially cause serious health problems with little or no associated benefits.

Georgetown University

The procedure which involves flushing out the colon through a tube inserted into the rectum may lead to nausea, cramping, bloating, and in some cases renal failure and even death as determined by a study conducted by Georgetown University scientists.  The study went on to explain that colon cleansing products such as laxatives, teas, powders and capsules purport benefits that actually don’t exist.

Of similar concern is that these procedures are quite often performed by non-medical personnel in spas and clinics.  The practitioners in these spas and clinics have been found to have limited, if any, training in the administration of these unnecessary and potentially dangerous procedures.

Nutritional or full-body cellular cleansing is a safe alternative that has a medical study to back up its efficacy.  It is non-invasive and allows for a person with no medical background to use safely.

Everyone has a choice to make here if weight loss and cleansing is the desired result.  It seems to be common sense to choose the alternative that has been proven to work safely.

What’s in Your Meal Replacement Shake?

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

To derive the greatest benefit from a meal replacement shake, you have to know what you are looking for.  There are several considerations when making such a decision that can help you to avoid a lot of experimentation and repeated trips to the local isalean shakes choc van 240 What’s in Your Meal Replacement Shake?nutrition store.  First and foremost you need to know what makes for a good meal replacement shake.  You want something that provides your body with the nutrients that it needs while allowing you to cut calories to lose weight.  You also need to pay attention to the type and quantity of protein in the formula.

There are five additional factors that you should research before making a final decision:

  1. Does the product provide long-term weight-loss results, regardless of whether your goals are total weight-loss or ideal weight maintenance?
  2. Is there any third party empirical scientific evidence to back up the products claims of effectiveness?
  3. Is the purpose of the shake to replace a full meal; or will it serve only as a snack between meals?
  4. Is the shake free of additives, artificial ingredients, artificial flavors or sucralose?  In addition, is the product tested for contamination of pollutants and heavy metals?
  5. Is the product available at a reasonable price?

My wife and I believe that the Isagenix Isalean Shake meets all of these criteria.  The IsaLean shake has delivered long-term weight-loss results to include more than 5.4 million pounds released and 6.5 million inches lost by people using the product.  A clinical university study demonstrated that the IsaLean shake surpassed other protein shakes for weight loss results.  The shake is a full meal replacement with 23 grams of Whey Protein which serves to prevent muscle loss while you lose weight.  The IsaLean shake is low in saturated fat while being high in healthy poly- and mono-unsaturated fats.  The shake is all natural with no additives.  Finally, the Isagenix IsaLean shake offers great nutrition at a great price.

“Sorry, Ma’am…but you are too obese to be Served!”

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

In a recent post I noted the adverse affects of obesity on pregnant women.  It turns out that there is much more to be worried about.  Obesity is beginning to affect a persons ability to get basic services.  There have been two articles Sorry, Maam...but you are too obese to be Served! in the last day that exemplify this assertion.

In South Florida, OB-GYN doctors have begun to refuse service to pregnant obese women.  The doctors claim a very practical reason for their refusal.  Since there are so many complications associated with obese pregnancies, there is significant concern that the pregnancy will go bad and the mother, the child or both will suffer injury.  Since we are such a litigious society the assumption is that when the inevitable occurs that the doctor will be sued.  In order to minimize this potential, a large number of these doctors have refused to take on obese women as patients.  Until some form of torte reform occurs (or the obesity rate drastically decreases) I only see this trend expanding.

Sorry, Maam...but you are too obese to be Served! The second article told a story that has become all to common in the news.  Two obese women purchased tickets to fly on a national airlines.  When it was determined that neither of them could fit into one seat, the were told they each needed to pay for an additional seat.  One of the women admitted to weighing 268 pounds.

I have stated on several occasions in the past that obesity has become the norm.  An addiction to food is no longer to be considered a “problem”.  Instead, we have plus sized models, plus sized stores, and the expectation that there will be plus-sized airplane seats.  This simply cannot happen.  I believe that there maybe a benefit to these incidents as it may force obese people to reconsider their circumstances.  I truly do not mean that in a “mean” way.  I have great concern for people with significant weight issues.  I look at them as I would look at any other type of addict.  I am also concerned with the future of our country since we continue to be the fattest nation on the planet.  If our current trend persists where will our soldiers, firemen and policement come from?

The cost of being obese is expanding beyond the grocery bill.  It will continue to affect peoples abilities to obtain basic services that, at this time, we take for granted.

If you suffer from obesity then we may be able to help you.  You can contact us either through our web-site at CleanseBenefits.com, or by calling toll free 1-866-982-DIET (3438).

Pregnancy and…weight loss?

Saturday, May 14th, 2011

As many of you maybe aware my wife Tamara struggled with obesity for much of her life.  As a matter of fact, when I first met her she had just completed a regimented diet plan helping her to lose a significant amount of weight.pregnant 2is Pregnancy and...weight loss?  Tamara was able to control her weight issues through limiting her diet for some time until she got pregnant with our daughter.  As a result of this pregnancy and the subsequent pregnancy with my son, Tamara developed health issues that caused her to gain 65 pounds over the course of the next 10 years.  One of the things I remembered from both of the pregnancies is that the doctor was never concerned about Tamara gaining too much weight; rather, he  was concerned with her gaining enough.

According to a FoxNews.com article many doctors follow the recommendations from the Institute of Medicine in regards to pregnancy and weight gain.  According to this advisory panel, obese women should still gain 11 to 20 pounds during their pregnancy.  This recommendation is less than the 25 to 35 pounds recommended for women considered to be of normal weight at the beginning of their pregnancy.

New research may indicate that weight gain recommendations for pregnant women are all wrong…or, at the very least, may need to be modified.  The associated study suggests that women with a BMI of 40 or higher could actually benefit from losing weight during pregnancy

Some of the benefits to obese women losing weight or maintaining their weight during pregnancy include:

  • Reduced potential for C-section deliveries
  • Reduced potential for delivering large newborns

The recommendations of the study presume that the expectant mother is eating a balanced diet that gives her the nutrients she needs to maintain a healthy baby and a healthy mother.  A daily nutritious 229 breastfeeding Pregnancy and...weight loss?protein based shake may help in this effort.  Another recent study has found that 54% of obese mothers are less likely to breast-feed their children.  Considering all of the health benefits associated with breast-feeding, this statistic should be of significant concern.

Both of these studies should cause both expectent obese mothers and their doctors to re-examine old paradigms.  If you would like to discuss this topic with us further or you would like to find out more about Isagenix nutritional products you can visit CleanseBenefits.com or call Tamara toll free at 1-866-982-DIET (3438).
